A new performance piece, titled "an omniscience: an atmos-etheric, transnational, interplanetary cosmist bird opera spanning seven continents and the many verses” combining epic poetry and an original score for wind instruments inspired by Arctic Terns, which make the greatest migration of any creature.

Obsidian Coast traveled with Hylozoic/Desires (Himali Singh Soin and David Soin Tappeser) to Anglesey in Wales this August in search of the Arctic Tern. We found them at their breeding grounds beside a defunct nuclear power plant, just as they started their journey to Antarctica. By the time the weekend ended, we had turned into birds.

HIMALI SINGH SOIN
Himali works across text, performance and moving image. She utilizes metaphors from the natural environment to construct speculative cosmologies that reveal non-linear entanglements between human and non-human life. Her poetic methodology explores the myriad technologies of knowing, from scientific to intuitional, indigenous and alchemical processes. Outer space is often used as a place from which to navigate alien distances and earthly intimacy, rewiring ideas of nativism, nationality, nihilism and cultural flight. Her inspirations include the ancient Stoics and contemporary literature, travel diaries and ancient diagrams. By manipulating semiotic flows, she creates conditions for the observation of microstructures of social and geopoetic time. In the face of extinction, her work insists on resurgence.

DAVID SOIN TAPPESER
I am a musician, composer and performance artist, based between london and new delhi. my practice centres - broadly speaking - around ideas concerning the ecology of time. i am particularly interested in how our understanding of time scale affects our perception of reality - socially, culturally and environmentally. i strive to practically explore some of these ideas - on a micro level - in my performances and compositions, manipulating frames of temporal reference through rhythm. my approach to the drum set is very improvisation-driven - putting strong emphasis on aesthetics of tone and dynamics - and heavily influenced by long periods of time spent in india, italy, nepal and mexico.
