RESIDENCY
25 Jun — 2 Jul 2019
In June, the Perennial Institute is welcomed to the coast to research local plantlife, British gardening histories and international plant conservation schemes, and to attend Bradford-on-Avon's Secret Garden tour as part of our shared initiative to invite local gardeners to donate cuttings to Obsidian Coast. Caring for the donated cuttings will encourage Obsidian Coast to attune to the life of plants and help us grow our own roots as part of the local community.

PERENNIAL INSTITUTE
The Perennial Institute, run by artist Jai McKenzie, is an experimental education project exploring creativity through the lens of plants. Considering how creative thinkers can expand their practice by deepening their connections with plant life, the Perennial Institute views plants as our overlooked teachers. By spending time with plants, listening to them, and exploring their possibilities, we can grow together, for a better future.

The Perennial Institute was initiated by Jai McKenzie, an artist and researcher with a PhD in visual art from the University of Sydney, Australia. She has taught art and design students at Sydney College of the Arts and the University of Technology, Sydney. Jai has spent the last seven years engaged in Berlin's contemporary art scene, and has worked for local artists Haegue Yang and Olafur Eliasson.
