RESIDENCY
20 — 31 Aug 2021
Over 10 days at Obsidian Coast, Soda Jerk worked intensively on post-production for their new feature film Hello Dankness, a bent suburban musical that bears witness to the psychotropic cultural spectacle of the period 2016 to 2021. Comprised entirely of sampled film and set in the American suburbs, the film follows a neighbourhood through these years as consensus reality disintegrates into conspiracies and other political contagions. Part political satire, zombie stoner film and Greek tragedy, the work is also informed by the encrypted memetics of contemporary internet culture. Continuing a decades-long collaboration with artist Sam Smith, Soda Jerk’s residency focused on compositing and other visual FX for the film.
